Foil Stamping or Embossing can give an elegant look to an already beautiful printing project. It’s a process where a color foil can either be pressed directly into the sheet as a flat image, or can be embossed into the sheet giving and additional raised effect. Here are some choices to consider:
- Foil Stamping A stamping foil either a metallic color in nature (silver, gold) or a pigment foil (simulating a PMS color) can be applied with heat to place an opaque image on any paper stock. This is especially effective with darker colored papers where normal printing ink would not be visible.
- Foil Embossing Same process as foil stamping but with an additional die that raises the sheet in a specific shape like a logo or a letter. Embossing dies can be either made of magnesium (least expensive), Copper (more expensive but more durable over time) or brass. A brass die can also give you multiple levels of embossing like a stair step effect, or a hemispherical shape.
- Blind Embossing Same process as foil embossing but without the foil. Causes a raised shape to come off the surface of the paper. Very subtle, very elegant. Best applied when using lighter colored papers.
The choice of papers can make a big difference in how your embossing project turns out, some papers are better than others. We can guide you in the selection process for optimal results.
